current project
In Istanbul, the Fikirtepe district's Gecekondus, born in the 1950s on state-owned land, faced a modernization showdown. With over 15 million inhabitants, Istanbul's construction boom has reshaped skylines, accommodating a growing population. Fikirtepe, once a symbol of informal settlement, transformed as urban renewal projects replaced it with modern structures, sparking tensions between tradition and progress. The city's dynamic growth reflects its ability to adapt, with each construction crane seemingly sharing a joke with the minarets – a playful dance in Istanbul's ever-changing narrative. In the beginning of 2024 I visited the district to work on: Gecekondu, a long-term essay.
about
Besides framing built architecture, I use photography as a research-driven tool, to document people and living surroundings. I see my photographic work as an artistic take on social, economic, and political themes. Hence my studies of architecture, I am deeply intrigued about the lives and living situations of individuals.
